Bereavement visiting

The Bereavement Care Visiting Team has a main objective of showing God’s love to the bereaved people of Crofton Parish.
The minister who conducts the funeral will be in touch with the Bereavement Team co-ordinator who then arranges for a member of the team to contact the next of kin to enquire if a visit would be helpful.  Some useful leaflets on bereavement and details of groups and services provided through the Crofton Churches, are also given to the next of kin, whether or not they have a visit. This information is normally delivered by hand.
The Bereavement Care Visitor will also leave their telephone number and the number of the Churches’ administrator so that contact may be made later if required.

The aims of the Bereavement Care Visiting Team are to share with the ministers the care of the bereaved, to visit if required and support and listen to those who have lost loved ones and to offer practical advice if needed. The Visiting Team members are not formally trained bereavement counsellors, but all have attended training courses on listening and are experienced parish visitors.

Memorial Service

Anyone who’s loved one’s funeral service has been dealt with through the parish will be invited to come to the annual Memorial Service at Holy Rood Church, Stubbington on the 3rd Sunday in October at 3pm. This gentle, sensitive service provides an opportunity to remember that special person and to light a candle if wished. Tea and cakes are served afterwards in the Church Centre, with opportunity to talk to clergy and members of the bereavement visiting team.
The service is open to anyone who has been bereaved whether recently or a while ago.

Organising a Funeral

If you are responsible for organising the funeral of a family member and you want the funeral to take place in one of Crofton's churches or indeed if you would like one of our ministers to attend a crematorium service, the first thing you need to do is to contact one of the many excellent funeral directors in the area. Your funeral director will be able to discuss every practical aspect of the funeral with you, and the funeral director will then contact the church to confirm available dates, the attendance of church ministers and an organist (if required).

Once those arrangements have been made, the minister who will be taking the funeral will get in touch with you to discuss the service, but if you have any questions at any point you are very welcome to contact us directly yourself. Please e-mail us at the office@croftonparish.org.uk or telephone the church office (01329 661154) on Mondays to Fridays from 9 am to 1 pm and 2pm to 4.30pm.
